Are you wondering how to keep your style fresh during pregnancy? I managed to avoid buying maternity clothes and still looked cute and stylish.
During my first two pregnancies, I often wore my husband’s clothes – especially in the later months, because nothing else fit.
I don’t really like spending a lot of money on maternity clothes, that only get worn a few times. I’m always looking for the most bang for my buck and some the cutest maternity clothes don’t have a lot.
When I first found out I was pregnant, I vowed to not wear my husband’s clothes; so I could actually look like a girl while pregnant, this final pregnancy.
I did some searching for subscription based companies that offered maternity. I found Le Tote happened to have just that.
I had used Le Tote one other time, before and was not super impressed with the selections sent. But I was willing to give it another shot.
They have several packages available in regular clothes and I was so ecstatic that they also had maternity selections.
I have gotten so many compliments on my maternity clothes, this pregnancy. It’s not enough for me to be cute – but also comfortable.
After you select your package, you can add items to your “virtual closet” and your tote is compiled of either pieces in your virtual closet or styles that closely match.
Before you tote is shipped, you get the option to view the tote and swap anything out.

Have you ever found yourself going to your closet and nothing is fitting? Maybe you recently lose weight and now you are in an akward phase of all your clothes being too big? The opposite can happen too, and this is common in early stages of pregnancy.

There are some very important wardrobe essentials you need as your body changes. These essentials will prolong your wardrobe as you’re losing weight and will grow with you. Changing your whole wardrobe can be the most expensive part of losing weight, as nothing in your closet fits and you have to get new clothes. However, if you still have weight to lose, you may not want to spend a lot of money on a new wardrobe, just yet.

Here are five wardrobe essentials to always have in your wardrobe that will grow with you:

Stretchy Fabrics:  This is a very important piece to own. A lot of jeans now come in stretchy materials and they have a bit of stretch to them so they stay fitted and grow with you whether you are losing weight or building muscles.

Elastic Waistbands:  Having skirts and pants with elastic waistbands in your wardrobe is essential as they can grow or slim down with you.

Wrap Dresses or Wrap Tops: This is really important because they’re really expandable and very flattering on a lot of different body types, they can adjust with you as you are going up or down in sizes. If you’re pregnant or planning to get pregnant these are also great because they can grow with you and then they can go back down once you go back to your regular size. Wrap dresses are really a great thing to have in your wardrobe.

 


Empire Waists:  An empire waist stops right at your bust line and then the rest of the top just goes down and it can be really flattering if you’re a little self-conscious of your tummy and it will really prolong your wardrobe.

Accessories:  Accessories can bring or lead the eye where you want it to go. I love to have a big flashy necklace or earring because it brings the eye up. Other accessories like belts can also accentuate the waistline and create an hourglass look especially if you’re more square shaped and don’t have much of a waistline.

I haven’t always been a confident person.

In high school, I kept to myself, never started a conversation and often wanted to crawl in the corner, in all my classes.

The moment I got my report card – at the end of the 9th grade – and nearly all C’s and D’s reflected how I was showing up to school every day. I had no belief in myself.

The next day, in a snap decision, I knew I could do better and I did. The rest of my high school career, I was an A-B student.

 

Self confidence doesn’t feel natural to everyone, but we all have it deep down. You are literally a decision away to being more confident. Confidence is more of a mindset than it is anything. You don’t have to be the smartest. You don’t have to be the prettiest. But confidence will make you more attractive.

 

Now, I pull out my bucket of tricks anytime I am feeling less than confident.

For a good uniform, pick a solid color neutral (black is great) pant or skirt, black shoes and optional black neutral jacket. The only thing that changes in your “uniform” is the top. You will always know what to wear without feeling like you are wearing the same thing.

3. Put on your favorite party music and dance for 5 minutes. This allows you to loosen up, de-stress and get into the feel good hormones. I use this anytime I am feeling in a funk or stressed out over something.

4. Make a list of 100 reasons why you are great. On this list, you will want to include recent compliments, accomplishments, job promotions, charity work, etc. Any time you are feeling less than stellar, read over the list and be reminded how awesome you really are.

 

5. A quick walk, outside, does wonders for your attitude and energy. Being out in nature, you are reminded of nature’s beauty, infinite growth and see lots of wildlife thriving. A 15 minute walk will move the energy in your body, allow the sunlight to brighten your mood and the fresh air on your face will wake you up. If you can’t get out in nature, any form of physical activity will do.

As moms, daughters, wives and career driven women, we give so much of ourselves to everyone around us. It is easy to feel drained, neglected and unfulfilled. We often look to others to fill this need, but I have learned we need to show others how we want to be treated.

{I’m gonna be my own best friend.}

When we start to practice showing ourselves love, 3 things happen;

a. we recharge and fill that need, ourselves,
b. others take notice and duplicate,
c. we are able to give even more to those around us.

We can shower ourselves with love, on a daily basis, with minimal spending of money or time.

  1. Buy yourself flowers.
    I don’t know many girls that don’t love fresh flowers, but so many times, we expect others to buy them for us.
  2. Get some exercise.
    Taking time to care for yourself does wonders for your self confidence and self-worth. Next time, you have 30-60 minutes, take a walk outside, go to a yoga class or hit the gym.
  3. Plan a date night or girls night.
    Date nights are great to reconnect with those we love, or take yourself on a date to reconnect with yourself. Plan a picnic, dinner and a movie or a local attraction.
  4. Call a friend.
    Girlfriends are the best ones to vent to or connect with when you are experiencing a challenging day. 15 minutes on the phone with a close friend is often just what is needed to bring you back to center.
  5. Take a bath.
    A relaxing bath allows you to unwind and distress. Light a candle, add some Epson salts and lavender essential oils, for extra relaxation.
  6. Paint your nails.
    Who doesn’t love some extra pampering?! Whether you go to the salon or give yourself a pedicure, at home, you will be itching to show off your new sandals with a fresh polish.
  7. Buy a new outfit.
    Treat yourself to a job well done, with a trip to your favorite retail store. Nothing perks up your self confidence, like a new outfit, for the season.
  8. Read a book.
    When was the last time you lost yourself in a good book? Take 15 minutes before bed to read a chapter out of your favorite book.
  9. Take a spa day.
    This is taking #6 to the next level. Schedule yourself a facial, massage and a haircut, you will walk out feeling like a million bucks and a new woman.
  10. Pretty up your space.
    Take a look around you. What are you surrounded by? A few minutes of reorganizing and clearing out clutter can do wonders for your mood.
  11. Clear off your desk.
    This goes along with #10. Clearing up old emails, old notes and straigtening up your work area will clear your head and boost productivity. Take 15 minutes at the end of each work week, before you leave for the weekend. This is even more important, if you work from home.
  12. Pour a glass of wine.
    Would you prefer red or white? A glass of wine, with friends or paired with a long, hot bath is good for the soul – and the heart, too. If you are not a drinker, look for sparkling water and add fresh raspberries.
  13. Dress up for no reason.
    Sometimes, a girl just needs to put on her best. A little black dress, a messy bun and red lips do wonders for a girls confidence. Pretend you are going out on the town, pour yourself that glass of wine and chill. Take a look in the mirror and remind yourself how beautiful and independent you are.
  14. Plan a getaway.
    A weekend getaway for 1 or 2 may be just what the doctor ordered. Make sure there is plenty of nature to explore, spend your time journaling, with no limit on time and don’t forget to unplug from your electronics.
  15. Write yourself a love note.
    If you could write a letter to your 18 year-old self, what would you write?

A couple weeks ago, I talked about how I am rebuilding my wardrobe after losing 40 pounds. When it comes time to go on a date with my husband, I find myself frustrated that I have nothing to wear. Does this happen to you, too?

First of all – I love shopping, I love to dress up, but with 2 kids, neither of those happen often. If it does, it is stressful, hurried and not a pleasant experience, which is why most of my purchases happen online.

I find myself needing something for a particular event, which is usually special occasion – a wedding a bridal shower, so my closet ends up full of special occasion and party wear. However, I find myself struggling when it comes to wearing something to go to the grocery store or for family movie night, at the theatre.  I still want to look mommy chic and not wear yoga pants everywhere I go.

Well, in December I decided to subscribe to a service called stitch fix and I wanted to tell you about my experience.

I work from home, so many times you will catch me in yoga pants, a sports bra and tank top but there are occasions I still like to dress up. I don’t exactly have a wardrobe that I am proud of.

I wish I had a wardrobe like I did in my 20’s – a sea of tops in various colors and styles, enough black pants for every day of the week and dresses I can dress up or down, no matter the occasion.

When I learned about stitch fix, it sounded a little too good to be true. How wonderful is it that I can have my own personal shopper!

After signing up, a personal stylist is assigned to you and after a series of questions they determine what is needed in your wardrobe and what your particular style is. In the subscription service, they send you 5 pieces of clothes that is personally picked for you and you can decide if you want to keep them or if you want to send them back. Then, after your shipment, you provide feedback to your stylist so he/she can better serve you.

With my first month, I wasn’t expecting all glitter and rainbows. As a mom, pants don’t exactly fit my body the same way they did 10 years ago. I was just hoping a couple of the pieces would appeal to me.

All I can say is OMG! My first month, I was blown away.

On December 24, the hustle and bustle of Christmas had come and I forgot that I didn’t have anything to wear for a Christmas party. As usual, I hurried off to JCPenney’s, bought a dress without trying to it on. Amateur mistake – I know.

Once I got it home, I found out the sweater dress I had bought, was way too hot. Ohio, in December, was usually bitter cold but was actually quite warm, this year. We hadn’t even have snow yet, so the dress I had purchased was just too hot for what I was going to be doing, that night.

Luckily, my first fix had came that day. I went to the store without even opening it. I decided to open it and see what was in it to see if I could piece an outfit together for the night.

In it was a couple tops, a dark pair of pants, a blazer and a necklace and I can honestly say I loved every single piece.

The tops were cute and flattering on my body.

The pants fit like a glove, and match a lot of things already in my wardrobe. They have become my go-to pants.

In my original survey, I mentioned I loved the look of a blazer; however, I’ve had a hard time finding a good blazer. One that is flattering on me because I do have a petite frame, I’m 5’3 and  I find that a lot of the sleeves are too long or the blazer, itself, is really boxy and overpowers my small frame.

The blazer is amazing! I love it – it’s very easy to dress up or dress down.

The necklace is rose gold necklace and in a particular style I would never have purchased.  I just would not have been drawn to it  – however, I really love it. I wore it that night on Christmas Eve and have worn it a couple times, since.

In conclusion, I highly recommend a service, like stich fix, because it saves time shopping and you may end up with pieces you wouldn’t necessarily pick out for yourself.
