Oh wait – what about your face? Make-up only covers up so much!

Most of us are diligent with our skincare routines, in the summer, but then fall comes and we start to slip.

Here are 10 ways to whip your skin back into shape, just in time for your close up.

1. Eat more whole fruit and veggies.

Fruits and vegetables are loaded in nutrients and antioxidants to help our skin look great from the inside out. They are also made up of a lot of water content, see next tip, below. Find my 5 day meal plan, here.
2. Drink more water.

Staying plenty hydrated has so many benefits, a big one being clear skin. Making sure you get enough water can help clear your skin problems and blemishes up and prevent them from happening. 50% of us are not drinking four glasses of the recommended eight. Aim for half your weight in ounces of water.

3. Get at least 8 hours of sleep.

Our body and skin does most of it’s recovery in our sleep. Aim for at least eight hours of sleep, each night, no less than six, to allow it to do it’s job, effectively. Shut down your electronics at least 30 minutes before bed, the screen glare can be disruptive, as is caffeine and alcohol.
4. Wash your face, twice a day, with a gentle cleanser.

At night, it is important to wash off all the toxins we come into contact with, from makeup, to cigarette smoke, perfumes and air pollutants.
Since our skin does its recovery, in our sleep, we want to be sure to wash off any extra oils and depris from that process.
5. SPF daily.

It is just as important to use SPF during the winter, as the summer months. Applying SPF can make a big difference in fine lines, dark spots and skin cancer. Use an SPF of at least 30, for best results.

6. Use a good moisturizer.

A moisturizer locks in the the moisture and keeps our skin feeling smooth. It also leaves a protective barrier between our skin and cold winter air and winds. Find a moisturizer with natural ingredients, such as Aloe Vera, Shea butter or cocoa butter.
7. Exfoliate

It is important to be taking off dead skin, to flake off the dull layer and reveal the radiance that lies underneath. Exfoliating once per week is essential and needed both for the face, and all over the body. Most exfoliators use a mix of salt or sugar and some even have real fruit seeds.
8. Use a moisture mask.

Nothing makes my face feel as great as a great mask, once a week. A clay based mask can help reduce the appearance of pores. A clarifying mask can help with blemishes.
9. Exercise.

A good sweat for 30 minutes helps your radiance from the inside out, also.
10. Reduce stress levels.

Nothing wrecks havoc on your skin, like a lot of stress. You can spend a fortune on beauty products, but your beauty radiates from the inside. The holidays are very stressful for a lot of people; stress can cause skin breakouts and dark under-eye circles, to name a few. Take a yoga class, start a journal before bed or get some R & R on the weekends, as a destressor.

Try a few of these or all of them and watch the heads turn as you look your best. Better than looking your best, you will feel amazing and that will show through your confidence.
